Chromium is a trace element that is naturally present in many foods and also available as a dietary supplement. Chromium is present in many foods, including meats, grain products, fruits, vegetables, nuts, spices, brewer’s yeast, beer, and wine. However, the actual amount of chromium in these foods can vary widely based on soil/ water conditions to the plants and also how the food is processed.

There have been some documented benefits to chromium in our diet/ supplementation. Chromium might plan a role in carbohydrate, lipid, and protein metabolism by potentiating insulin action. It can also be seen as an antioxidant. There has not been an established RDI (Recommended Daily intake) of chromium to date, although some studies suggest that supplementing with chromium could have beneficial effects with disorders such as impaired glucose tolerance and diabetes, metabolic syndrome, polycystic ovary syndrome, dyslipidemia, and weight and lean body mass.
