N-Acetyl-l-Cysteine (NAC) is a derivative of the dietary amino acid l-cysteine. NAC has been used for over five decades in clinical medicine as a mucolytic agent (clearing up mucus), for respiratory infections, lung weakness and for lung diseases such as asthma, sinusitis, chronic obstructive airways disease (COPD), bronchiectasis, chronic bronchitis, cystic fibrosis and pulmonary fibrosis.
