Lung & Respiratory Support
The lungs are spongy, air-filled organs located on either side of the chest (thorax. When you breathe, air is conducted through the trachea (your windpipe), and eventually makes its way into the lungs through the bronchi. These bronchi divide into smaller branches (bronchioles), and finally into even smaller microscopic air sacs (alveoli). Once in the alveoli, the oxygen is absorbed into the blood and traded with carbon dioxide (a waste product from metabolism) from the blood which then is exhaled.
Because every cell in your body needs oxygen to function optimally, it is critical that oxygen is continually circulating. In addition to this gas exchange process, your lungs also support your internal temperature, play a role in maintaining your sense of smell, and protect your body from potentially harmful substances like airborne particles.
